Lebanon's Past & Present Diary

LebScape is a Lebanese free service dedicated proudly to promote Lebanon's tourism, culture, history, customs and heritage. We would like to share our treasure, the ancient land of the Phoenicians, with you. We invite you to discover the reason for our passion and attraction to this fascinating region of the world.

With history dating as far as the Old Testament, where else on earth would you be likely to find a land worthy to claim itself a witness of history in the making? There is an obvious reason why this land has long been and still is beating a heart full of life and of history: its perfect location. Its Mediterranean coast serves as a gateway that makes the east and west easily accessible. Lebanon, the strategic center of the Middle East, bridges together three major continents.

Many have been fallen its spell. The land of the Phoenicians' beckoning power has long driven many to strive for leadership and endless forms of contribution. Hannibal, Elissa (also called Dido), Gibran Khalil Gibran are only a few of those who fell under its charm. The Lebanese diasporas around the whole world experience this enchantment in their desire to remain connected with their root in Lebanon.

A few facts worth mentioning:
  • King Solomon's temple was built with Lebanon's Cedars
  • Egypt's Pharaohs imported Lebanon's marble and timber
  • Napoleon's best war planner was Hannibal
  • Phoenicians at Byblos invented the Alphabet to facilitate its trades
  • "Bible" name is derived from "Byblos"
  • Lebanon is mentioned more than 100 times in the Bible

  • After all this talk of the past and present, is it possible to travel through time? Obviously and logically, of course not. However ,with us we can come just as close. So, allow us to walk you through Lebanon's past and present diary.

We need volunteers for this enormous project. Contact us if you are interested.
